Custom Railing Design

I worked with the homeowner to design and build a completely new modern railing system for their four-story townhome. I handled the entire process from start to finish. I began with 3D design renders, material samples and mock-ups to nail down the details. I executed all of the steel fabrication, demolition of the original railings, and installation of the new system.

The design is custom fabricated cold-rolled steel with a matte black powder coat. We added custom walnut wood caps to warm up the design and complement the existing flooring. When removing the old railing system, design and finish solutions were needed to prepare the areas for the new railings. I created a custom floor trim piece, and also did extensive wall blocking to get handrail brackets in the ideal mounting locations.

The woodworking was done by Hunter Montgomery. He also helped me with the demo, site prep, and installation labor. He was crucial in the success of this project.
